World War Update 081304 Iran

From News Ignored

Security officials in Baghdad were last night urgently investigating the background of 30 Iranians who were caught fighting for a rebel Shia cleric in Iraq, amid mounting concern over the involvement of the Tehran regime in the uprising. The Guardian has learned that the most senior members of the Iraqi government were briefed about the capture of the men yesterday, and also told of other evidence that fighters and equipment have been crossing the border from Iran. The 30 men were captured in the southern city of Kut on Wednesday and officials are trying to establish whether they have any links to Tehran. "We are checking their identities but if they are found to have links to the Iranians then that would be tantamount to a declaration of war by them," said a senior Iraqi source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The source said members of Iraq's national security committee had yesterday been presented "with revealing information about the extent of Iranian involvement in Iraqi affairs", which was being taken seriously at the "highest echelons of government".

The extremist element (such as Iran's Government) so desperately wants us to fail because it will be the beginning of their end!

Someone remind them that thanks to President Bush the beginning of their end was actually on 9/11 - thank God some of us woke up (paging John-Rip Van Winkle-Kerry your alarm is still set for 9/10!)

I'm sorry, I can't leave this one alone either. "The extremist element (such as Iran's Government) so desperately wants us to fail because it will be the beginning of their end!" Hmm. First of all, I'm glad you put 'Iran's government' after 'extremist element' because I would have guessed you meant the Bush Administration. Even so, lets examine this for a moment.

It is your contention that the extremist element (Iran's government) wants us to fail ( I assume you mean in building a healthy democracy in Iraq.) And they want the US to fail because if we are sucessful, it will be their end. If I'm not hearing you right, then I appologize. If I am, then you are an idiot.

Iran's govenment is a democracy. Yes, the extremist religous fundamentalists are a menace, both destructive and unstable for the region. The same can be said of the extremist religious fundamentalists in our country. The only real difference is their leader was elected by a majority of votes.

When we are sucessful in building a healthy democracy in Iraq, do you seriously think that the people in Iraq will not elect religious extremists that hate America? What in recent days makes you think Iraq will be any different than Iran, at least in its view of the US? How will this be their end?
