"Lie-n-Hype 9/11" Uddate - Up is Down!

From Editor and Publisher - Mr. Moore's Attornies sent a letter to the Illinois newspaper he lifted and changed the headlines on.

This led The Pantagraph to conclude: "Moore apparently is not going to say he's sorry or pay the newspaper's light-hearted, if not symbolic, request for $1 in compensatory damages. But his company's lawyer was willing to spend 37 cents, to send a letter suggesting Moore did little wrong."

That letter claims Moore did nothing "misleading" when a headline from The Pantagraph ("Latest Florida recount shows Gore won election") that originally appeared above a Dec. 5, 2001, letter to the editor was changed in both font and size for the movie and made to look like a news story from the Dec. 19, 2001, edition.

Chatillon, who represents Westside Productions, which produced "Fahrenheit 9/11," did admit the date flashed in the movie "was unfortunately off by a couple weeks." But the mistake "did not make a difference to the editorial point ... and was in no way detrimental to (The Pantagraph)."

Amazing, he changes the dates and headlines - admitting to changing it they used a letter to the editor and they think it didn't change the editorial point? You know, I used to wonder if this guy used to believe his own crap - now I know, it is all the nuanced mindset of the left! Up can actually be down if you cut and paste it correctly!

Com Log 08142004 Moore stopped by!

Well, it seems like Michael Moore was here himself and Okay, I know your waiting for me to reply to the comments received on a few of my stories. Amazingly whoever it was didn’t bother to check any of the facts in their comments nor did they try to actually use references in their comments – just attacked me for my stand.

Well, just to hit the softballs out of the part –

Iran and elections:
You’re a fool, Iran is not a democracy (PBS Newshour) – their ruler is appointed for life and controls most power along with their religious council which threw out 2500 representative candidates for being reformists. Nothing resembling an elected democracy – only about 12% of those eligible to vote actually did in this last election.

Check the facts – President Bush was elected. (CNN In Depth Specials) All recounts have shown that to be true – including the media’s recount with used Al Gore’s limited and unfair standards! So get a clue. Oh, and the vote in the Supreme Court was 7 to 2 stopping the recount because the standard was not being applied equally – equal protection under the 14th Amendment. The 5 to 4 vote was only on how they should proceed (AmericanDaily).

Global Warming:

The Enviro Wack-o’s love to ignore anything that doesn’t fit their "man is bad" indoctrination. Well, here is some more for them to ignore.
Sun affects earth temps
CO2 is released after warming has already started ice cores prove this
History of climate and what affects climate change (hint, human greenhouse gas is .2 to to.3%)

UNScam:
Wow, what rock were you under – the UN Oil For Food Scandal is the largest financial fraud in history at over 10 BILLION (BIGGEST SCAM IN HISTORY: The UN Oil-for-Food Scam) Haliburton (op-ed to follow on this) can’t even come close. Not to mention the deaths the UN has overseen. Oh, and what about all the other scams the UN is into – child prostitution for peace, starvation, genocide, bribes, payoffs – here is a short list.

Clinton:
No, it was never about sex – it was about the flagrant violation of everything our judicial system relies on! Perjury undermines the entire system, and that attitude carried over to every aspect of his and our lives. McGreevey at least put the state above saving his reputation. Clinton sacrificed national security in an attempt to save his legacy - and plead out the case.

Oh, and the vacations issue – President Bush gets his PDB Daily (which is what the D – in PDB stands for, DAILY), so no vacations….sorry! Clinton missed so many that they would accumulate on his desk some weekends and even weekdays! (Frontpagemag) Oh, and he refused to meet with his CIA Director, refused to get Bin Laden when he had chances (at least 3). Did you miss the 9/11 report?

The reason Bill Clinton had successes as President is that Clinton avoided anything challenging and when given a bloody nose he cut and ran, giving Bin Laden his belief that we are a Paper Tiger – look into Bin Laden’ very own statements!

Florida - Charlie or Psychic Friend Weather Service!

Fifteen Dead and Billions in Damage!

Martha's Son and his family lives near Orlando and she sent me this update yesterday:

They are in the eye of the storm right now. Not sure which side they will be on when the it passes through. West side is lighter than East side. We are just waiting to see what happens. They have cooked food ahead in case and have all taken showers since they don't know when they can again. They are what Doug calls hunkered down.

But amazingly there are some on the left who will blame the President and Jeb Bush for any and everything. Charlie is George and Jeb Bush's fault - absolutely NO logic. If those of us in Illinois knew the strom was going to hit hard what kind of mentality does it take to block the warnings and evacuation orders that were issued 36 hours before it hit?

FR posting: 3 of them managed to in the span of 60 seconds say "this is Jeb Bush's storm...he really screwed this one up","your boy Jeb is going to have a lot of explaining to do with this one","I am sure Jeb and George will come play the healer for their own injuries they caused."

The nerve of a reporter to ask him "you are down here and the cameras are here...but do you really mean it when you say you are going to make sure people get help? Do you mean it?"
Or CNN saying "well the president's trip with his brother will be more about not wanting to lose Florida and the 27 electoral votes than showing compassion"

World War Update 081304 Iran

From News Ignored

Security officials in Baghdad were last night urgently investigating the background of 30 Iranians who were caught fighting for a rebel Shia cleric in Iraq, amid mounting concern over the involvement of the Tehran regime in the uprising. The Guardian has learned that the most senior members of the Iraqi government were briefed about the capture of the men yesterday, and also told of other evidence that fighters and equipment have been crossing the border from Iran. The 30 men were captured in the southern city of Kut on Wednesday and officials are trying to establish whether they have any links to Tehran. "We are checking their identities but if they are found to have links to the Iranians then that would be tantamount to a declaration of war by them," said a senior Iraqi source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The source said members of Iraq's national security committee had yesterday been presented "with revealing information about the extent of Iranian involvement in Iraqi affairs", which was being taken seriously at the "highest echelons of government".

The Tunguska Mystery - Background

Here is some background on that explosion - click on the headline above to see the full story on these possible explainations for the 1908 mystery. Interesting stuff but still no back up to the UFO story.

The theories put forth to account for the Tunguska event range from the scientifically plausible to the ridiculous to the intriguing. They included:

A fragmentary asteroid or meteorite that exploded in the atmosphere.
The nucleus of a comet that likewise exploded in the atmosphere.
An unusual tectonic event.
A tiny black hole that entered the Earth's atmosphere from outer space and imploded.
A chunk of antimatter that reacted with the matter of our planet.
A crashed UFO, the propulsion drive of which exploded.
A deliberate attack by extraterrestrials.
The result of a test of Nikola Tesla's wireless power transmitter.

Again, there's no definitive proof for any of these ideas, but let's consider each.

And of course add to that the new story about a UFO saving the planet!

Is iIt Hot In Here Or Are Is A Fraud Exposed?

US Newswire

WASHINGTON, Aug. 12
Contrary to popular myth the Earth is not warming significantly, according to new research published last month in Geophysical Research Letters by scientists with the universities of Rochester and Virginia. The reports note two important findings that run counter to the view that human activity is causing catastrophic global warming. "It's been known for some time that satellites and surface thermometers give different temperature trends," said one of the reports' co-authors Prof. S. Fred Singer, president of the Science & Environmental Policy Project (SEPP). "We now have independent confirmation that the satellite results are correct and that the climate is not warming." Prof. Singer, an adjunct scholar with the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) is also a former director of the U.S. Weather Satellite Service. Proponents of global warming theory have long pointed to thermometer measurements at the Earth's surface as proof that the Earth is warming. Other scientists have pointed to balloon and satellite readings of temperatures in the Earth's lower atmosphere that show no significant warming. The scientists from the universities of Rochester and Virginia employed a new, independent way of determining the temperature, using historic meteorological climate data to construct temperature values for each grid cell of the Earth at an equivalent height of two meters. This analysis agreed with the satellite and balloon measurements, establishing that the disparity is close to the surface and mainly in the tropics.
In another report, the Rochester/Virginia scientists found that the computer climate models used to assert that the introduction of greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide (CO2), into the atmosphere is causing the Earth to warm, and that the effect increases with altitude becoming twice as strong at about three miles up, are in stark contrast to the actual data of the past quarter-century. Comparing the results from the three commonly cited climate models with four independent observational data sets, the scientists found that the models all showed temperatures increasing with altitude, while the actual observations showed the opposite occurred."If the global climate is not warming, why all the fuss?" asked Singer. "The whole issue of controlling CO2 emissions is moot." The NCPA is an internationally known nonprofit, nonpartisan research institute with offices in Dallas and Washington, D.C., that advocates private solutions to public policy problems. NCPA depends on the contributions of
individuals, corporations and foundations that share its mission. The NCPA accepts no government grants.

Hmmm, put this on top of the recent studies that show the Sun has been burning hotter:

The sun has been at its strongest over the past 60 years and may now be affecting global emperatures," said Sami Solanki, the director of the renowned Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Gottingen, Germany, who led the research.
"The sun is in a changed state. It is brighter than it was a few hundred years ago and this brightening started relatively recently -- in the last 100 to 150 years," Mr. Solanski said.

(By the way, this hotter sun coincides with the supposed change caused by man and the industrial age! You know the worst time in man's history - the height of the fossil fuels!)

And you end up with the Enviro Wack-o's being the ones hot under the collar this increase in their own temperature must explain why they fell for the Global Warming hype.

Oh, and tell those Euro Weenies we are waiting for them to apologize for their unilateral ignorance!

UNSCAM

Outstanding bit on Captain's Quarters, it includes this gem:

Now the Times has linked Kofi Annan's staff, and presumably therefore Annan himself, to the corruption, and based on the Times' reporting, it could hardly look any worse. How bad did it get? Even the Iranians tried to tip off the sanctions committee, just to get shined on. If you want to know why
the corruption ran so rampant, all you need to hear is this limp excuse from the man
who controlled the entire program, Benon Sevan:

Mr. Sevan, the Cypriot who headed the program, has denied that he received any
kickbacks and would only say in a statement that his office was not responsible for ferreting out corruption. Congressional investigators this year disputed that claim, citing United Nations resolutions.

So the man who was in charge considered himself little more than the program's bookkeeper. He certainly took little executive interest in the program, at least officially, although Sevan himself faces allegations of payoffs as well, which would make his laissez-faire approach to enforcement a lot more understandable.

More there - give it a read or go to the NY Times story for the full background story on the corruption in the UN, it is rampant!

Obama Update 081304 Crime Vote

American Spectator:
In the area of crime, Obama appears downright pro-criminal. He cast the lone vote against legislation in 2001 that would have eliminated time off for "good behavior" for sexual predators. Obama's backers have tried to explain the vote away by tying it to the principle of uniform sentencing guidelines, but 55 to 1 makes that a tough sell. He has consistently voted against tougher sentences for, among other things, cop killers, and drug dealers.

Interesting record.

Irrational Vs Logic

Wow, amazed at the early reaction to the op-ed supporting the Governor.

Their is such a reaction to the support of anyone or anything gay that it completely clouds the fact that had Clinton taken the same rout as McGreevey the nation might have not have had a 9/11 because we might have had a President who wasn't so preoccupied with his own legacy that he might have decided to actually protect the country. (Although Gore probably wouldn't have done any better!)

Admittedly this was an attack piece on Clinton's failings and the "see no evil" media and Dem's, but it is overshadowed by the gay issue. Interesting.

More on this tomorrow.
DKK

So let me get this straight – NJ Governor Resigns

I have to take my hat off to New Jersey Governor James E. McGreevey for his courageous move on Thursday August 12, 2004. The Governor came out as a having had an affair with another man, saying, “Shamefully, I engaged in adult consensual affairs with another man, which violates my bonds of matrimony,” he said “it was wrong. It was foolish. It was inexcusable.”

He stated that his ability to govern would be affected because of his sexuality and the affair. These left the governors office vulnerable! WABC-TV of New York reported that McGreevey was expecting a lawsuit by a former aide accusing him of sexual harassment.

The resignation and admission of the affair as well as the admission about his sexuality were extremely courageous acts and as noted by Steve Fisher a spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign coming out is a very personal experience – made very public in McGreevey’s case.

While the details are not yet completely “out” as of this writing I have to say that this makes McGreevey the nation’s number one Democrat - in terms of his integrity, honesty, and regard for the citizens he governed - that I have seen in the past twelve years.

How can I claim that a Gay man who just admitted an extramarital affair deserves this honor? Well, like this - these details all sound quite familiar to an earlier event that outraged me! And if you take the liberal playbook and consistently apply the standards then in this case the issue of being gay should be a non-issue!

The nation suffered eight years of similar exposure to lawsuits and exposure to vulnerability from 1993 to 2001 the only difference is that the office was much more important and this exposure affected many more peoples lives. From 2001 to the present we have been subjected to throngs of Democrats attempting to rehabilitate the soiled reputation of the man who held this office. Yes, I am talking about Bill Clinton.

As a conservative I have to give McGreevey credit for his courage and the strength of his character, after all I was outraged at Clinton for putting the nation through our period of shame and not doing the honorable thing.
While Governor McGreevey said, "Given the circumstances surrounding the affair and its likely impact upon my family and my ability to govern, I have decided the right course of action is to resign.”

This is what then President Clinton gave us:

It depends on what the meaning of the words 'is' is." –Bill Clinton, during his 1998 grand jury testimony on the Monica Lewinsky affair

It depends on how you define alone…" –Bill Clinton, in his grand jury testimony

"There were a lot of times when we were alone, but I never really thought we were." –Bill Clinton, in his grand jury testimony

“I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.” - Bill Clinton, in his grand jury testimony

"What's a man got to do to get in the top fifty?" –Bill Clinton, reacting to a survey of journalists that ranked the Monica Lewinsky scandal as the 53rd most significant story of the century

And then there is this one that gives those of us on the right the proof we needed that the national security was second to the party:

“I may not have been the greatest president, but I've had the most fun eight years." –Bill Clinton

Remember that there were lawsuits pending against Mr. Clinton, not just the threat of legal action and a judge determined that the President perjured himself.

This President is still held up as the best the Democrats have ever had! To that I advance this – McGreevey has more courage and integrity then Clinton has ever even thought of having.

In an attempt to deflect from Clinton’s failings, as a man and as a President, (including exposing the nation to the attacks of 9/11) the self appointed
Fourth Branch of Government (the Elite Media - see also, "Lie-N-Hype 9/11") has chosen to distort or ignore the facts. Luckily they won’t have to make that decision thanks to Governor McGreevey by taking one for the Democrats he saved them from exposing their hypocracy.

We all have failings, it is how we handle them that show our character – or lack of character.

Governor McGreevey’s character is still strong and he leaves New Jersey strong because of his honorable actions. President Clinton’s character can only be described as weak and as a result he left our nation weaker then when he took office because of his failure to act honorably.

This will be another situation when the media will be in a Catch-22 of their own making. They will probably focus upon his being gay which goes against their own liberal sensibilities. They should focus upon his character and his strength, however doing so would expose their hypocrisy!

I admire Governor McGreevey for admitting his mistake and putting the needs of the people of New Jersey ahead of his own personal ambitions. I wish our former President had done the same thing.

Politics of Treason - Or Win at all Cost!

As Dick Morris points out in his New York Post column:

IT is hard to believe, but recent polling by the Fox News Channel suggests that more than a third of American voters believe that the Bush administration is manipulating the terror warnings for political advantage. This ridiculous suspicion is the Democratic equivalent of those Republicans who labeled Bill Clinton's rocket attacks in Afghanistan in the hopes of killing Osama bin Laden a wagging of the dog.
America is not helped, and is badly hurt, when our partisans do not observe common sense and the paramount necessity of defending the national interest in their political rhetoric. Words have consequences, and the excessive Democratic partisanship now — like the vitriolic Republican partisanship in the Clinton years — harms the national interest in clear and apparent ways.
Besieged by critics who claimed that it was raising the terror threat to staunch Kerry's momentum as he emerged from his convention, the Bush people felt obliged to release the fact that the British and Pakistanis had arrested al Qaeda computer guru Mohammed Nasin Noor Khan in Pakistan on July 13.
This unfortunate release of information reportedly crippled ongoing British efforts to use Khan — or at least his computer and e-mail — to communicate with, and therefore identify, his al Qaeda colleagues.
Once the terrorists read in the newspaper or saw on CNN that Khan was in Western custody, his usefulness to our intelligence services was fatally compromised. One British intelligence figure explained, in classic understatement, "It made our task more difficult."
Why did the Bush administration feel obliged to reveal the source of the intelligence that compelled it to ratchet up the terror alert? Because the Michael Moores of the world would not respect the terror warning without proof — even if this evidence compromised efforts to get more intelligence.
Faced with the necessity of curtailing access to several key buildings in American and British cities, the administration could not just act, it had to explain why it was acting and reveal the secret of how it found out the terror plans. .... (snip)

As I have stated before there are probably dozens of terrorist plots that our government have stopped cold in their tracks! There are things I, as a middle Americans, don't need to know and I think the majority of us are happy leaving this information to those trained to handle them, keeping us safe.

But that isn't enough for the Democrats and the media! The media no longer practice any form of responsibility in their reporting. They have the strange belief that their right to freedom of the press supercedes national security. They believe the constitution grants them the right to access any information they want - and they will punish those who they feel may be withholding from them. Amazingly they also are under the impression that they are supposed to behave as if, in their percieved Fourth Branch of Government they are non-national entities without a country. This is one of the reasons they are considered unfair and anti-American. They consider this as their higher calling. This high browed elitism is hogwash and has only one real name, it is treason.

The Democrats are no longer content with merely debating policy issues. They believe that the only way they can win is to come out in force and demonize the administration. With the flood of the false "he lied" comments from the likes of "Lie-N-Hype 9/11," Hollywood, and the screeches in the party (Dean, Pelosi, Daschle) the administration is left with the option of having enough non believers ignore the recent warnings thus endanger average Americans or of having to expose and dispose of a valuable source to protect us all.

This tactic used by those on the left have lead them to the bankrupt policy of having to question the administrations motives on any and all matters of policy - with absolutely no tangible evidence to support the cries of, "he lied!" A key difference between the parties is that Republicans, to this day, stop at the security of the nation.

I also need to point out that this is post 9/11, WE ARE AT WAR. The left is still using their pre-war playbook!

Unfortunately the left are now in a very unenviable position, one that can only endanger all Americans. This position, my friends, is the mark of fool or of a traitor.

World War Alert

DID THE CENSUS BUREAU VIOLATE THE PRIVACY OF ARAB-AMERICANS?
By Michelle Malkin · August 11, 2004 05:41 AM
Two weeks ago, the New York Times and other media outlets reported with much alarm that the Census had given data to the Department of Homeland Security on where Arab-Americans live. Civil liberties groups called the disclosure a "dangerous breach of the public trust" and likened it to the Census's compilation of similar information on ethnic Japanese during World War II.
At The Volokh Conspiracy, Orin Kerr points out something that the mainstream media neglected to mention--namely, that all of the data the Census Bureau gave to DHS were apparently publicly available from the Census Bureau's web site.
Kerr explains:

As best I can tell, all the Census Bureau did was run a few queries from their own public website and then e-mail the information to the Department of Homeland Security. The Times story doesn't tell you this, though; instead, it rather artfully describes the information as "specially tabulated." Yes, it was specially tabulated; Census Bureau employees ran the queries from its public data and put it in tabular form just for Homeland Security. Ergo, specially tabulated.

Wonderful analysis, we ARE IN A WORLD WAR!

Daily Reality Check 081104 Alien License

KCRA News Channel ^

Group Accuses Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Of Dragging Feet SACRAMENTO,
Calif. -- Backers of a measure to give California driver's licenses to illegal residents are running out of patience and time. Immigrant groups turned up the heat on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Monday, marching at the state Capitol and accusing the governor of dragging his feet on a promise to support a driver's license bill for non-citizens. "We do want what everybody who comes to America (wants), like you did, governor," said Sen. Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles.

These Two have a handle on REALITY!
"In my opinion, it's not solvable. I think they shouldn't be here in the first place, and we shouldn't be giving them any form of driver's license," said Senate Republican leader Dick Ackerman.
"They are in this country in violation of federal immigration laws. Federal law requires they be deported. It's that simple," said Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks.
Why are we even discussing this - the key is the term ILLEGAL! See Michelle Malkin for great analysis and a new book "IN DEFENSE OF INTERNMENT: THE CASE FOR "RACIAL PROFILING" IN WORLD WAR II AND THE WAR ON TERROR"

U.S. intelligence officials say a high-profile political assassination, triggered by the public release of a new message from Osama bin Laden, will lead off the next major al Qaeda terrorist attack, The Washington Times has learned.

Now why would al Qaeda want anybody but Bush - could it be that his undiplomatic actions are working?

Daily Challenge 081004 Waste Not!

Tell me this isn't a challenge!

New York Daily News

The windy, stinky city
CHICAGO - Chicago police said Monday they were
investigating a foul-smelling gunk that showered tourists taking a boat tour of the city.
Witnesses on the Chicago's Little Lady architecture tour Sunday afternoon saw a large black tour bus dumping liquid waste as their boat cruised under the Kinzie Street bridge on the Chicago River, said Anita Pedersen, spokeswoman for the tour boat company. More than 100 passengers were on the boat when the waste poured onto the upper, open deck.
"I can only presume that perhaps it's human waste. There was a very strong smell to it," Pedersen said. Police spokesman Carlos Herrera said police were investigating how the passengers came to be covered by the mess and exactly what it was. Pedersen said some boat passengers wrote down partial license plate numbers of the bus. After the incident, the boat's captain turned the vessel around so passengers could return to the dock. They all got refunds, Pedersen said.
The boat has since been cleaned with disinfectant. The Illinois
Environmental Protection Agency (news - web sites) and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago also are investigating the matter, said Illinois EPA spokesman Rob Sulski. "We need to find out whether it was a deliberate matter or an accident," Sulski said.
Water reclamation district spokesman Lou Kollias said they had little information Monday about the incident. Lynn Osmond, president and CEO the Chicago Architecture Foundation, which runs the tour boats along with the boat's owner, said nothing like this has ever happened before.
"I think this is a fluke and everybody understands that," Osmond said. "This is the Chicago River that we all respect and love, and hopefully this is something that will not be left to happen
again."

Sovereignty Alert 081004 Rasmussen Reports

The difference between us and them revealed!

Rasmussen Reports August 10, 2004:
A separate survey found that 47% of Americans believe that our allies should follow the lead of the United States more often. Twenty-five percent (25%) believe that the U.S. should follow the
lead of our allies.
Democrats are evenly divided on the question--36% say the U.S. should do more following while 34% say the allies should do so. Republicans overwhelmingly believe that the allies should follow our lead more often.
Conservatives, by a 65% to 13% margin, say that the allies should do more to follow the United States. Liberals take the opposite view--by a 43% to 25% margin, they believe the United States should do more of what our allies want us to do.
Forty-percent (40%) of moderate voters want the allies to follow our lead more often while 28% take the opposite view.

Wow, this difference is HUGE! No wonder we are so divided - we want to keep what we have and they want to give everything over to someone else.

Breathing Alert 081004 Asthma Attack

Rich Lowry from The national Review has a great analysis of the recent attacks on the President from the left based on air quality. Seems they didn't get the memo about improvements in air quality! Or more likely they got the info, but it doesn't fit their environmental wacko-o ideals.

As someone who suffers from asthma and breathing problems I have looked into the causes and although Rich hits on indoor air quality - roaches are probably the #1 cause in the inner cities. Perhaps the environmental wacko's and their unfounded ban on DDT and other effective pesticides is the real cause.

Restocking the Arsenal - The Fed Motive?

During the 90’s Alan Greenspan warned against “irrational exuberance” – what I called, “THERE IS NO NEW ECONOMY/OLD ECONOMY – THIS IS CRAP, AND I AM SICK OF HEARING IT - THE ECONOMY HASN’T CHANGED – IF THERE IS NO PROFIT THERE IS NO COMPANY!”

I was just as amazed as Greenspan was that people could fall for the “Internet Bubble” and with time the bubble burst proving us both correct.

In 2000 I surmised that as a result of the jump in energy prices (during the last year of the Clinton Administration) we would have a recession and a significant drop in the stock market. I reviewed the price of crude oil and gasoline over the past 40 years and compared this to historic recessions and market histories. Based on these numbers I predicted that if Clinton didn’t make some type of move we could be headed for stagnation similar to that of the 70’s.

Early in the Bush Administration the initial tax cuts were starting to work their magic, stimulating the economy out of this stagnation.

Then came 9/11 – costing the US economy at least a years growth (the specific amounts will probably never be know – but everything was affected. Didn’t you look at your spending a bit more carefully?) We were at war and a major front in that war became The Economic Home Front. As proven by Ronald Reagan’s Cold War victory the economy of a nation is quite vulnerable to continued attack and if vulnerable enough these attacks can lead to a nations defeat without a single shot being fired.

This front in The War on Terror was defended by the President and Mr. Greenspan as aggressively as the President and Mr. Rumsfield defended the nation in Afghanistan and Iraq. The odds were stacked against us, but the additional tax cuts and dramatic cuts in the Fed Funds Rate brought us back in what can only be described as a victory as dramatic as D-Day, Gulf War I, II, or (pardon my French defeat reference) Waterloo!

Terrorists believe that they know our weaknesses they believe that an attack on our economy is the best way to defeat us. They may be right, but what they don’t understand is that our economy isn’t the Soviet economy. It isn’t even the Socialist economy of the Europeans. Our economy is completely unique and can withstand attacks like 9/11, but not without some help.

This brings me back to my point. The economy still has that drag of high energy prices, partly because of successes of these Terrorists. It influences consumer confidence - seeing that board outside the corner gas station every day affects household spending of almost every family in the country. This spending curb is actually helping to keep inflation in check in a round about manner. So why would the Fed need to raise rates?

They are restocking their arsenal!

If you have common sense and live in the real world you can see that the terrorists have plans to disrupt our election with some type of attack during the next 90 days or so. This attack doesn’t have to be at home, a serious disruption in the flow of oil throughout the world would do the trick and the Fed is nearly out of ammunition.

So how do we fight back? If I were President I would plan an immediate cut in the taxes on gasoline (All Fuel) to take place in the event of an attack– dramatic enough to get everyone’s attention. I would demonize – yes I said demonize those on the left who have prevented the passage of the President’s Energy Plan leaving this flank exposed to attack. These people have left this flank open hoping that the continued small economic attacks would force a change in policy or a complete change in administrations. Thus exposing us to the devastation of a large attack, this is nothing less then the politics of treason.

I would get these two things passed within a week of an attack. (I might even suggest that in a second Bush term these changes, along with the cuts already in place, if made permanent, could ensure continued growth despite these increases in energy prices.)

The ammunition the Fed is now building up is the reserve that will be necessary to fight The Economic Home Front in this War on Terror.

Fact Check 081004 Stem Cell

The Kerryspot has this great update:

THE BUSH TEAM ON STEM-CELL RESEARCH [08/09 11:37 AM]
The Bush campaign is organizing response messages on stem cell research. Judging by how often it was cited at the Democratic convention, the out-of-power party has concluded that the (false) charge that the president has banned stem cell research is a winning campaign theme. (And people have absorbed that message - a friend recently shared a story where a coworker insisted that stem cell research is illegal, and refused to believe that what the Democrats wanted was to increase the level of federal funding for research.) The Bush camp is sending emails
pointing to this Charles Krauthammer comment:

KRAUTHAMMER: Well that’s precisely right and it is part of the unbelievable demagoguery of the Democrats on this issue. Look, I personally support expansion of some of the federal funding of stem cell research. But you're absolutely right, the ban that they speak about is simply a lie. It is legal in the country of course, it always has been private universities are working hard on it.
Secondly, there was a ban on the federal funding right through the Clinton years. They never spent a penny on stem cells. The person who lifted the ban was President Bush when he made his speech in August of 2001. So, the federal, right now the federal government is spending $25 million on stem cell research. So, to talk about a ban I think is simply to mislead Americans deliberately. (Fox News’ “Fox News Live,” 8/9/04)

And How's this for reality!

In fiscal year 2003, federal spending on stem cell research was $24.8 million. The administration also provided $190.7 million for human non-embryonic stem cells (adult stem cells, including those from cord blood, placenta, and bone marrow).
Another interesting point: France, Germany, Austria, Spain, and Ireland ban altogether the destruction of human embryos to create stem cell lines.

But maybe our policies aren't as nuanced and sophisticated as theirs.

Like I said, Krauthammer is the best!

Daily Fact Check 081004 Weapons

The true cover up and lie is why the media has burried this stuff!

Newsmax.com
"You have a warehouse containing 500 tons of natural uranium; you need 25 kilograms of U235 to build one weapon. How many nuclear weapons can you build?

"The answer is 142."

Though most reporters continue to insist that Iraq had abandoned its nuclear weapons program after the first Gulf War, chief U.S. weapons inspector Charles Duelfer told Congress earlier this year that the Iraqi scientists were "preserving and expanding [their] knowledge to design and develop nuclear weapons." One laboratory at al Tuwaitha "was intentionally focused on research applicable for nuclear weapons development," the top weapons inspector revealed.

But the best line!

Iraq war critics have argued that Saddam's uranium stockpile was safe because it was subject to once-a-year inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
But the IAEA was also in charge of monitoring North Korea's nuclear program right up until 2002, when Pyongyang announced it would begin producing nuclear weapons.

Atomic Weapons, The Humanitarian Peace Weapon!

Today is the second atomic weapon was dropped on Nagasaki Japan - August 9, 1945.

Yes, I proudly say Thank God! Yes, America is the only nation to ever use atomic weapons! And you should thank your God as well - no matter where you are from! (Yes I mean you - you EU weenie!)

Although there are many on the left who claim that the use of this weapon was not necessary (let alone developing Atomic weapons in the first place) looking at the truth in the history will show that it's use was not only justified, warranted, but was a humanitarian move on the part of the United States.

The death toll from both weapons is estimated at about 260,000. Hardly sounds like a humanitarian move but lets look at just a few facts -

Hardly ever mentioned are the bombings of Tokyo which took the lives of over 83,000 during the fire bombings in March of 1945. This is more killed then were killed at Nagasaki. (American involvement in WWII)

The Battle of Okinawa is distinguished among battles, yet often unrecognized when referring to the great battles of the Second World War. Over 250,000 people lost their lives. Approximately 150,000 Okinawans, about a third of the population, perished.(1) At the battle's end, somewhere between a third and half of all surviving civilians were wounded.(2) No battle during the Second World War, except Stalingrad, had as massive a loss of civilian life. The stakes were high. The Japanese, determined to fight to the last man, almost achieved their objective, but in defeat 100,000 Japanese combatants died rather than surrender.(3) In the end, fewer than 10,000 of General Mitsuri Ushijimas's Thirty-Second Army were taken prisoner.(4) (Military History Online)

Justified? Well:

From the invasion of China in 1937 to the end of World War II, the Japanese military regime murdered near 3,000,000 to over 10,000,000 people, most probably almost 6,000,000 Chinese, Indonesians, Koreans, Filipinos, and Indochinese, among others, including Western prisoners of war. This democide was due to a morally bankrupt political and military strategy, military expediency and custom, and national culture (such as the view that those enemy soldiers who surrender while still able to resist were criminals). (Freedom,Democracy, Peace; Power, Democide, and War)

Other Options:

Casualties were expected to be extremely heavy. Admiral William Leahy estimated more than 250,00 killed or wounded on Kyushu alone. General Charles Willoughby, Chief of Intelligence for General Douglas MacArthur, estimated American casualties from the entire operation would be one million men by the fall of 1946. This was considered, by many, to be a very conservative estimate. (The End of WWII by Haile H. Jaekel )

Keep in mind that the Japanese were determined to fight to the last man - person more accurately. Civilians, men, women, and children were all preparing and training to repel the invaders.

Harry Truman said in defense of, WHY I DROPPED THE ATOMIC BOMB. "It was a question of saving hundreds of thousands of American lives. You don't feel normal when you have to plan hundreds of thousands of deaths of American boys who are alive and joking and having fun while your doing your planning. You break your heart and your head trying to figure out a way to save one life. I made the only decision I knew how to make. I did what I thought was right. I still think that". (The End of WWIIby Haile H. Jaekel )

Another option would have been accepting a conditional surrender from the Japanese. The allies had early on decided that a conditional surrender was unacceptable for many reasons. Throughout history conditional surrenders are rarely successful in the long term - take the recent Gulf War and Saddam's 12 years of failing to live up to his agreement. With the millions killed by the Japanese and German bankrupt societies over the course of less then 15 years these governments could not be allowed to remain in power.

Result -

Short and long term results were very impressive.

In the short term Millions of Japanese were saved, more then a million American and Allied servicemen were saved, and millions of innocent civilians were saved from the Japanese death camps (something China still hasn't forgiven the Japanese for - see this story about Japanese/Chinese soccer match this month.)

Long term, prior to 1945 humans had managed to build up quite a track record of death! We had an ever increasing death toll in war that had built up year after year to a historic high of approximately 10 million people per year ! Let me repeat that - estimates are that nearly 60 million people died in World War Two with nearly half of these being civilian! (Western/World Civ. Surveys; Modern Irish History;Anglo-Irish relations; Modern Europe)

Just one more time for the record - NEARLY 60 MILLION PEOPLE DIED IN WWII, THAT IS NEARLY 10 MILLION PER YEAR!

Following the end of WWII the annual world death toll dropped dramatically, averaging about 1 million per year - in ALL wars, civil, ethnic cleansing, etc. One of the major reason for this drop and stagnation were atomic weapons and the policies that were implemented by the nations that controlled these weapons. (Death Toll from Disasters, War & Accidents)

So the next time someone cries out that the US is the only country to ever use atomic weapons - proudly tell them they are right and they should thank God we did. FYI the population in 1935 was about 2.1 billion @ 10 Million per year for the past 65 years is 650 million (650,000,000) people -- just under a third of the entire population of the world in 1935! There are just about 6 billion people alive today! In my mind these lives were well worth the cost of the cold war, wouldn't your favorite liberal agree?

Historic Update 080904 '04's

American troops struggled to bring order and freedom to a land that had experienced neither, while guerrilla warriors and Muslim extremists stood in the way. Much of the American public, the chancelleries of Europe, and the Congress -- especially the "anti-imperialist" Democrats -- clamored for the U.S. to transfer sovereignty and end its occupation, both objectives the U.S. met, although not without difficulty. Indeed, the divide .... between unique -- his opponents would have said "megalomaniacal" -- way of conducting foreign policy fell neatly along party lines.

On the domestic front, a booming economy began to erase memories of an earlier recession while many Americans considered whether, amid technological advances and expanding international commerce, things would ever be the same. Debates over how to protect U.S. jobs while empowering American consumers festered in Congressional
deliberations over trade and tariff policy. .... the integrity of corporate America came into question as combinations and trusts increasingly began to dominate industry.

Partisanship seemed ... shrill ..... thundering that the Democrats "seem at a loss, both as to what it is that they really believe, and as to how firmly they shall assert their belief in anything," while .... sentiment among Democrats, accused the Republican leadership of "a shameless exhibition of a willingness to make compromise with dignity."

Confirmation Report - Swift Vets

Okay, according to CrushKerry.com the DNC is going full out in an attempt to discredit the Vets:

“We have prepared what we call ‘Brown Books’ that contain damaging military records, personal credit histories, medical histories, psychiatric histories, divorce records, you name it,” our source told us. "We've got the goods on the Veterans who oppose Kerry. " The “Brown Books” are so called because of their distinctive plain brown covers, which contain no words. Some books have already been delivered to Kerry-friendly reporters. Others are on their way, our source told us. When asked if we could have a copy, our source declined, saying there is a limited number of “Brown Books” and they have been carefully inventoried to control in whose hands the books ended up.
Ultimately the “Brown Books” will end up in the hands of pro-Kerry news agencies and reporters. According to our source, who demanded to remain anonymous for fear of retribution, The New York Times is already on the hook to run a negative series on the Vets, as is the Boston Globe, which is owned by the Times. (Editor’s Note:
The Globe has already been caught attempting to attack the veracity of George Elliott, Kerry’s commanding officer in Vietnam.)

But the best line:

When asked if this was just another example of John Kerry slandering Vietnam Vets – like he did in 1971 as a member of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War – our source snapped, “No! This is warfare. The only way we’re going to get out of this is to force everyone to question their motives and credibility.”
“If they want to spread rumors and stories about John Kerry, we’ll spread rumors and stories about them. And some of the things they did in Vietnam were a lot worse than what they say John Kerry did,” our source concluded ominously.

Lie-n-Hype 9/11 Vs. The Swifties

Wow, hypocrisy at it's best!

July 2004 - Michael Moore puts out a 1 hour 56 minute smear fest on the Bush Administration and Democratic big-wigs tout the lies in the "Lie-n-hype 9/11" movie as being moving, worth seeing, and on point! As Terry McAuliffe stated, "I think anyone who goes to see this movie will come out en masse and vote for John Kerry. Clearly the movie makes it clear that George Bush is not fit to be president of this country."

National Review Online:
McAuliffe and a number of other prominent Democrats attended a screening of Moore's new documentary, Fahrenheit 9/11, at the Uptown Theatre in Washington Wednesday night. McAuliffe called the film "very powerful, much more powerful than I thought it would be." When asked by National Review Online if he believed Moore's account of the war in Afghanistan, McAuliffe said, " I believe it after seeing that." The DNC chairman added that he had not heard of the idea before seeing the movie, but said he would "check it out myself and look at it, but there are a lot of interesting facts that he [Moore] brought out today that none of us knew about."
A short time later, McAuliffe was asked by CNN, "Do you think the movie was essentially fair and factually based?" "I do," McAuliffe said. "I think anyone who goes to see this movie will come out en masse and vote for John Kerry. Clearly the movie makes it clear that George Bush is not fit to be president of this country.".....

.......In addition to McAuliffe, other Democrats at the Washington screening included Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, Montana Sen. Max Baucus, South Carolina Sen. Ernest Hollings, Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow, Florida Sen. Bill Nelson, New York Rep. Charles Rangel, Washington Rep. Jim McDermott, and others. Harkin told the Associated Press that all Americans should see the film. "It's important for the American people to understand what has gone on before, what led us to this point, and to see it sort of in this unvarnished presentation by Michael Moore."

August 2004 and the Swift Boat Vet's put out a one minute commercial and the DNC and the same big-wigs are in a complete tizzy - putting out a 33 page brief to each station threatening legal action if they run the movie. And McAuliffe, he demanded a "retraction."

The comparison - Moore took 1 hour 56 minutes to make a case based on misrepresentation and clever editing that the President is supposable unfit!

A group of veterans took ONE MINUTE to make the case that Kerry is unfit using signed affidavits and sworn statements - no careful editing required.

Oh and the media - well they loved to build up lie-n-Hype 9/11 - Cannes awards and all. The Swifties - they have to distort and maybe go as far as lie when they find one Vet who tries to be diplomatic (if you know me I am not a big one for nuanced diplomacy!)
(Veteran claims misquote on Kerry; Globe stands by its story).

Daily Com Signals 080804

From Comments - this is an excellent point and might I add part of the booming 90's was really a bursting bubble!

Oh and how about the trillion dollars 9/11 cost the economy.

I think the surplus and deficit is more related to the economy than any particular change in spending from year to year. There's no doubt that if government cut back on spending, we could get rid of the deficit. However, in practice that never happens. What DOES happen is that tax revenue goes up or down depending on the state of the economy. During the Clinton years, the economy was booming, and we had a surplus. The economy went on the decline towards the last year of Clintons second term, leaving Bush set-up for a budget deficit. - Scutter

Fueling the ``Fahrenheit 9/11'' controversy, members of the 9/11 Commission dispute filmmaker Michael Moore's claims that 26 members of Osama bin Laden's family were secretly shuttled out of the country while planes were grounded after the terror attacks.
``That's not what we found,'' commission member Jamie Gorelick said of Moore's assertion that the Saudis were snuck out on a charter flight on Sept. 13 in violation of airspace restrictions.
Gorelick told the Herald that restrictions had been lifted by the time the Saudi planes took off that day and that the FBI interviewed 22 of the 26 members. The others were cleared by the agency of any connection to the attacks, the commission found.

Daily Reality Check 080804 Deficit

I am sick of the screaming some on the left are doing about the budget deficit. To be fair, some on the right are screaming too - I always try to be objective (try mind you!).

I ran across a the chart everyone has see from Reuters - can't seem to find it now, all links broken! It looked really nice and all, had great colors and a HUGE negative swing under President Bush. Problem is it isn't an accurate way to analyze finances, it is a fraudulent or at the least intentionally misleading way to analyze a deficit.

Sure, numbers to numbers it is completely true - but GDP matters! Lets say you make $100,000 per year and figure you can afford a house with a monthly payment of $1000 (rough numbers just for point.) Your looking at an annual house payment of $12,000 or 12% of your annual income, or GDP in government terms. Well, 30 years later - your income has grown to $300,000. You could afford a $36,000 annual house payment without even blinking because it takes the same percentage of your income. This is Real World Common Sense! With that in mind I started looking to see if anyone in the media had decided to be intellectually honest and look at these facts as they apply in the real world. Unfortunately I didn't find anyone in the media do interested enough or educated enough to review these facts.

WOIFM had this wonderful analysis - check out the rest of this analysis, common sense - real world.
Here's why the Reuters graph is misleading, and deliberately so. It uses raw dollar numbers, unadjusted for inflation and gross domestic product (a rough estimate of the size of the American economy). Even the greenest budget journalist would know that such a comparison is worse than meaningless, it is outright fraudulent. The CBO itself reports that the actual deficit will peak in 2003 at 1.9 percent of GDP, returning to surplus in 2007. Even assuming a larger absolute deficit of $300 billion, as suggested by the Reuters chart, total deficits would never exceed 3 percent of GDP.

Radio Free Blogistan, an honest liberal willing to review the facts (thought not necessarily believe them). What did he find:

So, who holds the record for largest deficits as a percentage of GDP? Why the sainted Franklin Delano Roosevelt, that's who (again, quoting Frank): An Office of Management and Budget file that can be found here (PDF, 2.25 MB) contains GDP-based budget data going back to 1930. I didn't take the time to chart it as well, but I found it interesting that during the Depression years 1932-1936, President Roosevelt ran deficits in the range of 4.0 to 5.9
percent of GDP, and during the war years 1942-1945, he ran deficits in the range of 14.2 to 30.3 percent of GDP.

Here is the chart that Jack made.

The Administrations deficit is projected at less then 2% of the GDP.

In addition there are a few things that need to be included in any discussion of the current deficit:

1) THIS SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN BY MOST EVERYONE! A major front in the War on Terror is the Economic Homeland - just like in WWII we protected the homeland we do the same now! The terrorists have told us they plan on causing economic ruin - doesn't it make sense to protect that portion of the homeland just as you would nuclear plants, skyscrapers or airports! How do you do that, not with bombs, guns, or even extra police but with Tax cuts and an influx of government spending. (More to follow on these fronts in the war.)

2) The Clinton's wonderful "surplus" was in large part at the expense of national security! In 1999 the Pentagon estimated that we were under funding defense by at least $10 BILLION per year. While defense spending dropped in the 90's - in real numbers - all other spending increased.
3) A deficit is not all bad - you know those savings bonds you get for your kids, you got as a kid, or you get through work? Well what exactly do you think those are? Yep, loans to the US Government. Without the deficit there would be a giant vacuum in today's diversified investment world.
4) Money you earn is yours, not something the government is kind enough to let you have - tax cuts are like a drop in your prescription costs each month - it reduces your bills and lets you keep more of your own money! A tax cut is NOT a gift but a drop in your bills.

5) 9/11 cost the US economy (as close as can be estimated) over a trillion dollars! Try running your household with no income for three years on only two years of income and see if you don't slip into deficit spending - bet your credit cards will be smoking!
